C&rsquo;est le domaine dans lequel les mat\u00e9riaux sont produits, stock\u00e9s, transport\u00e9s et utilis\u00e9s \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures ultra-froides. Le froid extr\u00eame peut induire des r\u00e9actions chimiques int\u00e9ressantes. Par exemple, les substances passent de l&rsquo;\u00e9tat gazeux \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tat liquide ou prennent une forme solide en raison du refroidissement.<\/p><p>Un liquide bien connu qui change d&rsquo;\u00e9tat lorsqu&rsquo;il est refroidi est l&rsquo;eau. \u00c0 une temp\u00e9rature de 0 \u2103, l&rsquo;eau passe de l&rsquo;\u00e9tat liquide \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tat solide, appel\u00e9 glace. Cependant, il ne s&rsquo;agit pas de cryog\u00e9nie. Ce n&rsquo;est que lorsque des temp\u00e9ratures de -160 \u2103 ou moins sont atteintes que l&rsquo;on parle de cryog\u00e9nie. Il s&rsquo;agit de temp\u00e9ratures auxquelles les gaz deviennent liquides ; cette technique est utilis\u00e9e dans diverses industries.<\/p><p>La temp\u00e9rature n\u00e9cessaire pour liqu\u00e9fier un gaz varie d&rsquo;un gaz \u00e0 l&rsquo;autre. Par exemple, l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne se liqu\u00e9fie \u00e0 une temp\u00e9rature de moins 183 \u2103, alors que l&rsquo;h\u00e9lium n\u00e9cessite une temp\u00e9rature d&rsquo;au moins moins moins 267,9 Le froid extr\u00eame est transmis par la mise en contact d&rsquo;un gaz, d&rsquo;un liquide ou d&rsquo;un solide avec un liquide cryog\u00e9nique. Le gaz, liquide ou solide, atteint ainsi \u00e9galement la temp\u00e9rature cryog\u00e9nique souhait\u00e9e.<\/p><h3>2. Refroidissement par \u00e9vaporation<\/h3><p>Les atomes ou les mol\u00e9cules ont moins d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie sous forme liquide que sous forme gazeuse. Lors de l&rsquo;\u00e9vaporation d&rsquo;un produit liquide, les atomes ou mol\u00e9cules \u00e0 la surface re\u00e7oivent suffisamment d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie du liquide environnant pour se convertir \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tat gazeux. En revanche, le liquide restant conserve moins d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie, ce qui le rend plus froid. Ainsi, en induisant un processus d&rsquo;\u00e9vaporation, le refroidissement d&rsquo;un liquide peut \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9.<\/p><h3>3. Il s&rsquo;agit de refroidir les gaz par une brusque expansion de volume ou une chute de pression tout aussi rapide. Cependant, ce n&rsquo;est qu&rsquo;au XIXe si\u00e8cle que la cryog\u00e9nie a \u00e9t\u00e9 plus largement connue, car \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, de plus en plus de gaz pouvaient \u00eatre liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9s avec succ\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p>Tout a commenc\u00e9 en 1877, lorsque Cailletet et Pictet ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 liqu\u00e9fier l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne. Certains de ces gaz sont vendus dans les magasins et sont disponibles pour le grand public (pensez \u00e0 l&rsquo;h\u00e9lium pour les ballons et \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dans le domaine m\u00e9dical). Cependant, dans la plupart des cas, les gaz cryog\u00e9niques sont utilis\u00e9s par les entreprises industrielles.<br \/>Le g\u00e9nie cryog\u00e9nique reconna\u00eet plusieurs types de gaz industriels (dont certains sont r\u00e9pertori\u00e9s dans plusieurs cat\u00e9gories) :<\/p><h3>a. Gaz de l&rsquo;air<\/h3><p>Les gaz de l&rsquo;air sont extraits de l&rsquo;air en s\u00e9parant les diff\u00e9rents composants. L&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re se compose principalement d&rsquo;azote, d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, d&rsquo;argon et d&rsquo;un petit nombre de gaz nobles. <a href=\"https:\/\/demaco-cryogenics.com\/fr\/blog\/utilisations-et-applications-de-lazote-liquide\/\">L&rsquo;azote liquide<\/a> est largement utilis\u00e9 pour la r\u00e9frig\u00e9ration, par exemple dans l&rsquo;industrie alimentaire et la profession m\u00e9dicale ; l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne liquide est souvent utilis\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;industrie a\u00e9rospatiale ; l&rsquo;argon liquide est surtout connu pour son utilisation comme gaz de remplissage dans les ampoules \u00e9lectriques.<\/p><h3>b. Gaz nobles<\/h3><p>Les gaz nobles (h\u00e9lium, n\u00e9on, argon, krypton, x\u00e9non et radon) sont \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sents en quantit\u00e9s minimes dans l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re. Ces gaz ont une chose en commun : ils ne r\u00e9agissent pratiquement pas avec d&rsquo;autres mat\u00e9riaux. Ainsi, ils sont souvent utilis\u00e9s pour des applications cryog\u00e9niques o\u00f9 une r\u00e9action (telle que la toxicit\u00e9 ou l&rsquo;oxydation) n&rsquo;est pas souhait\u00e9e. Par exemple, dans les ampoules et les lasers, mais aussi dans les ballons et les bouteilles d&rsquo;air pour les plongeurs.<\/p><h3>c. Hydrog\u00e8ne<\/h3><p><a href=\"https:\/\/demaco-cryogenics.com\/fr\/hydrogen\/\">L&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne <\/a>est aussi r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement utilis\u00e9 dans la technologie cryog\u00e9nique. L&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne est l&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e9ment qui, lorsqu&rsquo;il est fusionn\u00e9 avec l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, forme l&rsquo;eau. Ce gaz n&rsquo;existe pas sur terre sous sa forme pure, mais il est r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement produit pour la production d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie ou l&rsquo;utilisation comme combustible.<\/p><h3>d. Autres gaz<\/h3><p>Les cat\u00e9gories ci-dessus ne couvrent pas tous les gaz industriels. Par exemple, le dioxyde de carbone liquide (CO2) est utilis\u00e9 en cryog\u00e9nie mais, \u00e0 notre avis, il constitue une cat\u00e9gorie suppl\u00e9mentaire. La manipulation imprudente de ces gaz comporte des risques importants, comme les risques d&rsquo;incendie et d&rsquo;explosion. Il y a aussi le risque que les gaz perdent leur forme liquide et soient par cons\u00e9quent gaspill\u00e9s. En particulier dans le cas de gaz co\u00fbteux, cela entra\u00eene des cons\u00e9quences financi\u00e8res importantes.<br \/>Voici quelques exemples de risques connus dans le domaine de la cryog\u00e9nie :<\/p><h3>a. Blessures dues au froid extr\u00eame<\/h3><p>Les vapeurs et les gaz froids lib\u00e9r\u00e9s par les liquides cryog\u00e9niques peuvent provoquer des l\u00e9sions cutan\u00e9es. En cas de contact prolong\u00e9 avec des mat\u00e9riaux cryog\u00e9niques, la peau peut geler compl\u00e8tement et apr\u00e8s d\u00e9cong\u00e9lation, laissant derri\u00e8re elle une abrasion irritante qui ressemble \u00e0 une br\u00fblure grave.<\/p><h3>b. Les substances toxiques dangereuses<\/h3><p>La plupart des gaz ont un effet n\u00e9faste sur la sant\u00e9 lorsqu&rsquo;ils sont tr\u00e8s concentr\u00e9s. Le monoxyde de carbone liquide, par exemple, peut d\u00e9gager du monoxyde de carbone gazeux, ce qui peut \u00eatre fatal.<\/p><h3>c. Risques d&rsquo;incendie et d&rsquo;explosion<\/h3><p>Un nombre relativement important de gaz sont inflammables et explosent au contact du feu. Certains gaz inflammables sont l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne, le m\u00e9thane, le gaz naturel liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 (GNL) et le monoxyde de carbone.<\/p><h3>d. Explosion par expansion rapide<\/h3><p>Non seulement le feu, mais aussi la pression peuvent faire exploser les gaz liquides. Sans une ventilation ad\u00e9quate ou des dispositifs de protection contre la surpression sur les r\u00e9servoirs de stockage cryog\u00e9nique, une pression \u00e9norme peut s&rsquo;accumuler dans les gaz. Cela peut entra\u00eener ce que l&rsquo;on appelle une BLEVE (explosion de vapeur en expansion d&rsquo;un liquide bouillant).<\/p><h3>e. La perte de gaz de grande valeur<\/h3><p>Un dernier risque li\u00e9 au travail avec des gaz cryog\u00e9niques est de les perdre. Pour que le gaz reste liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9, il doit \u00eatre maintenu en permanence \u00e0 la bonne temp\u00e9rature. Lorsqu&rsquo;elle se r\u00e9chauffe ou se d\u00e9t\u00e9riore accidentellement dans les infrastructures, une perte sous forme gazeuse peut se produire.<br \/>L&rsquo;h\u00e9lium est un exemple de gaz tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cieux qui se gaspille facilement. L&rsquo;h\u00e9lium se trouve sous terre, parmi plusieurs autres gaz naturels. Cependant, pour l&rsquo;utiliser, il faut l&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 sa forme la plus pure. C&rsquo;est un processus co\u00fbteux et laborieux. Electronique<\/h3><p>Une deuxi\u00e8me industrie dans laquelle la technologie cryog\u00e9nique joue un r\u00f4le important est l&rsquo;industrie \u00e9lectronique <em>de <\/em>. C&rsquo;est principalement lors des essais des appareils \u00e9lectroniques que des gaz liquides extr\u00eamement froids sont appliqu\u00e9s. L&rsquo;azote liquide est couramment utilis\u00e9 pour tester si l&rsquo;\u00e9quipement peut r\u00e9sister \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures froides dans le cadre d&rsquo;une utilisation quotidienne.<\/p><h3>c. Le GNL (gaz naturel liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9) pr\u00e9sente certains avantages environnementaux pour le secteur du transport maritime et routier et est, pour cette raison, de plus en plus utilis\u00e9 comme carburant. Pour que le GNL reste liquide, il doit \u00eatre stock\u00e9 \u00e0 -162 \u2103, ce qui n\u00e9cessite des infrastructures cryog\u00e9niques avanc\u00e9es.<\/p><h3>e. Marine<\/h3><p>Le GNL est utilis\u00e9 et stock\u00e9 dans la <em>industrie maritime<\/em> de plusieurs fa\u00e7ons. Certains navires utilisent le gaz comme carburant, tandis que d&rsquo;autres le transportent dans de grands r\u00e9servoirs de stockage (bunkers). Une petite fuite de chaleur peut avoir un impact important, ce qui rend une isolation optimale extr\u00eamement importante.<\/p>\n<p>Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, la technologie du vide s&rsquo;est av\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00eatre la meilleure technique pour maintenir la temp\u00e9rature (ultra-froide) des lignes de transfert et des syst\u00e8mes cryog\u00e9niques.
