During the assembly of project LCLS-II at SLAC in the vicinity of San Francisco, our mechanics had to make a weld that was unusual for our work. It was a 10” process line with a wall thickness of 4 mm stainless steel. This weld had to be welded with a gap, in position and with inserting the wire from the inside.
At Demaco, we often weld in position, but we are not used to welding with a gap. We weld everything bluntly against each other. The video of the weld was filmed from above through the gap.
Another nice piece of craftsmanship during a beautiful assembly in the USA. It’s all about Cryogenius.
