FAIR, Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research is a new multipurpose accelerator facility for the research with antiprotons and ions. Here they work with superconducting magnets and the cryogenic infrastructure for testing magnets.
After more than 5 years of designing, manufacturing and installing the cryogenic infrastructure for the FAIR Facility at GSI, Demaco was able to successfully complete the project. Due to the good cooperation between the GSI-FAIR team and Demaco, the work went well despite some setbacks by COVID-19.
We delivered two valveboxes and around 800 meters of piping. The distribution system is required to supply cold helium to all users and to return the helium back to the refrigerators.
Because Demaco had everything under its own management and could carry out the delivery in parts, everything went smoothly. In total, the project took 40.000 hours of work and involved 79 people.
