 ESS

The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a Partnership of 13 European Nations committed to the goal of
collectively building and operating the world’s leading facility for research by use of neutrons. ESS is going to provide a long-pulsed cold and thermal neutron beam for scientific instruments. The beam is produced by spallation in a tungsten target wheel. The produced neutrons will be cooled down (slowed down) in two cryogenic hydrogen moderators. The extracted heat will be absorbed by subcooled liquid hydrogen circulating in the Cryogenic Moderator System (CMS) and further absorbed by supercritical helium circulating in the Target Moderator Cryogenic Plant (TMCP). Demaco is responsible for the design, manufacture, and installation of the hydrogen distribution box, transfer lines and other conditioning equipment for the Target Moderator Cyoplant. The design follows the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and will be installed in a ATEX Zone 2. It’s all about Cryogenius!
