The accelerator at CERN
The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) ‘s particle accelerator in Geneva, Switzerland, is known by nearly everybody. In an underground tunnel, particles are accelerated and brought to collision in the LHC facility.
These particles are accelerated by superconducting magnets, which are made and held superconducting by liquid Helium. From different spots on the surface this liquid Helium is transported to the underground tunnel, where distribution over several magnets takes place. This concerns closed systems, where multiply vacuum insulated transfer lines are used. In total, there are a huge amount of multiply insulated transfer lines installed at CERN, 3 km of which are made by Demaco.
A challenging project, where Demaco could prove itself as highly qualified!
